BOOK 1, MACKENZIE COUNTRY SERIES

When life drowns you in lemons, to hell with making lemonade. I wanted to burn the whole world. But eighteen months from the day my life was torn apart, I’m tired of the anger. Tired of the nightmares. Tired of putting one foot in front of the other just trying to survive. Three months on a high country sheep station in the middle of nowhere is exactly the reboot I need. A chance to break free. To breathe again. To find a way forward.

I put my entire life on hold and head south to Mackenzie Country. But falli
ng for the captivating young station boss was never part of the plan. Holden Miller might be smart and sexy and push all my dusty buttons, but we come from two different worlds. I’m not looking for a relationship. I’m not interested in love. I’m done with all that.

But Holden doesn’t care about my rules. Nestled safely in the arms of the spectacular Southern Alps, on an isolated sheep farm at the top of the world, Holden begins knitting my battered heart together one careful stitch at a time. And with every pass of the thread, every braid of the river on our doorstep, I catch a tantalising glimpse of something I’d almost given up on.

Happiness, and maybe even love.

If I have the courage to reach out and grab them.

Note: This book contains references to the past death of a child and PTSD.

The stories are set around two neighbouring sheep stations, the men who live and work there, and the small town that services the region.

Expect loads of romance and swoon/ grief/ recovery/ discovering new life/ dealing with homophobia/ coping with pressure/ fish-out-of-water/ opposites attract, and major found family vibes.

Wonderful story

This story will break your heart and put it back together. I adored Gil and Holden and the whole cast of characters. This was my first book by Jay Hogan but it wasn't my last. I have been working through her collection.
Gary Furlong does an amazing job with the audiobook.

Love this book!

Jay Hogan never misses and The Art of Husbandry is an example of that. Add to it Gary Furlong's excellent narration, and this audiobook is not to be missed. I've already listened to it twice! I recommend the entire series.

Sublime storytelling.

This was my first time listening to Gary Furlong, and it won't be my last. He's a perfect narrator for Jay Hogan's wonderful, heartfelt story.

Love this book

This book in this series is by far one of my favourite, I’ve read the whole series, I loved all of the books! Holden and Gil had great chemistry together even with all the issues they both had in their personal life. This is one of my favourite tropes of life on a farm.

This book!!! <3

I first bought this as an e-book when it was released and read it after about a week and it blew me away. I can honestly say that this book changed the way I read and experience MM romance, even though I had been reading this genre for about 4-5 years by the time this book was released .

When the audio book was released I had to get it as well and it didn't disappoint. Gary Furlong is doing a wonderful job in making Gil and Holden coming alive. It gave me a new dimension to what I had experienced reading it and now it is one of my go to audiobooks when I want a feel good book.

The book is such a perfect mix of sweetness, serious issues and romance. I love Jay's writing style and how she builds an entire world for us to experience.
Gil and Holden are adorable, while still experiencing real life problems.
(There is mention of the loss of a child, so if that is a trigger for you this book might not be for you even though it is handled with a lot of care and sensitivity).

Holden is the owner of a sheep station in southern New Zealand and his new (temporary) domestic manager Gil is hot! What Holden doesn't know is that Gil is gay as well.
Gil on the other hand, has taken this job to get away from his past life, where he lost his daughter and as a result of this his marriage also disintegrated. When he spots Holden for the first time his dormant libido makes itself known to him. He is still very fragile after what has happened in his life and does not want to feel anything for Holden, even less admit this to Holden.
Holden on the other hand DOES want a relationship, something lasting for the very first time in his life and I often thank him for being so persistent and open with his feelings for Gil. Without Holden, Gil might never have gotten over the death of his daughter and the end of his marriage.
I love the two of them, then humanity of their lives we get to experience in their story.

Absolutely 5 out of 5 stars!
